Wastewater treatment in beef processing

Wastewater treatment in beef processing is an important part of the entire slaughter process. Due to the numerous processing steps, large amounts of process water are produced. These must not be allowed to enter the environment, as they cause considerable damage. Therefore, treatment is important.

Wastewater treatment in beef processing is an important part of the entire slaughter process

The slaughtering process of a cow includes numerous treatment steps that generate wastewater. After unloading the cattle, cleaning the transport vehicles is important. During this process, mainly faeces, urine and straw are mixed into the wastewater. After stunning, the slaughtered cattle are bled. When the breast and abdominal organs are removed, mainly fats, oils and lubricants are mixed into the wastewater. Cooling water accumulates with the further processing steps, as does cleaning wastewater after all working materials and surfaces have been cleaned. The total amount of wastewater produced during the slaughter of one cow contains a BOD of around 2,500 grams and a COD of around 3,000 grams.

If this wastewater enters the environment without treatment, it can cause considerable damage. Therefore, wastewater treatment in beef processing very important. The ClearFox® team offers efficient processes for removing almost all pollutants from the wastewater. Coarse debris, such as stones or straw, is filtered out by a screen screw. No debris larger than three millimetres may get into the system, otherwise it can become blocked.

ClearFox® offers highly efficient solutions for wastewater treatment in beef processing

The ClearFox® DAF – Dissolved Air Flotation – removes almost all suspended solids in the wastewater. The system adds flocculants via a dosing station, which bind the suspended solids in the wastewater. The flotation system discharges the resulting sludge through a cone opening. In this way, it removes mainly fats, oils and blood residues. If the customer wants even more efficient wastewater treatment in beef processing, the biological treatment processes such as ClearFox® FBR and ClearFox® SBR are suitable. After treatment, the quality of the wastewater meets all desired standards for direct discharge into a public body of water or for reuse in the company’s own water cycle.

ClearFox® DAF for wastewater treatment in beef processing

ClearFox® wastewater treatment plants are characterised by reliable cleaning performance as well as low investment and operating costs. For industrial wastewater treatment, the systems are completely installed in ISO sea containers. They are mobile, so they can be moved to another location if necessary, and modular, so they can be expanded at any time. Thanks to pre-production at the Bavarian main plant, the customer receives a turnkey wastewater treatment plant that is also suitable for wastewater treatment in beef processing.
