SBR Sizing Tool — single-chamber

Size a ClearFox Q1+ single-chamber SBR from your design flow and organic load. Covers 4–1000 PE across both single-chamber ranges. Enter the load as a concentration or as a daily kg total.

The usable volume stays fixed — changing the depth or proportions reshapes the footprint to hold the same volume. Limits: water depth ≤ 4 m; length between 1× and 4× the width; water depth not greater than the tank length.

Tank dimensions

This drawing is an example only. The actual tank dimensions are fully flexible — any combination of length, width and depth can be used, provided the required usable volume is achieved.

The dimensioned tank above is this system. Fine-bubble diffusers on the floor aerate the single mixed volume through timed SBR cycles; the perforated baffle keeps one usable volume; and an airlift draws the clarified, treated water off the top at the end of each cycle. Design basis & notes
PE sizing — EU domestic norm per DWA-A 131 / DWA-A 222. PE from hydraulic load = Q ÷ 150 l/PE·d; PE from organic load = BOD ÷ 60 g/PE·d; the governing (larger) value drives selection. The smallest standard kit at or above the governing PE is chosen.
  • Single aerated chamber (Q1+) — one tank with a perforated mid-length baffle forming a single usable volume (buffer, biological treatment and sludge storage combined). Always Class N. Above 500 PE an inlet screen replaces the baffle.
  • Footprint — tank volume and water depth come from the PPU datasheet; width and length size automatically to hold the volume while keeping the standard plan proportions. Standard kits are pre-engineered, so these footprints are planning estimates — confirm the final layout with PPU.
  • Usable volume & freeboard — the volume shown is the usable (working / liquid) volume, which sets the footprint at the water depth. Add ~300 mm freeboard above top water level for the overall tank height.
  • Certification — PIA EN 12566-3 tested; typical effluent COD 47 · BOD 6 · NH₄-N 0.2 · Ntot 18 · SS 11 mg/l.
  • Occupancy — always design to 100% peak load, not average usage. Exclude surface water; fit a grease separator for any catering load.

Indicative sizing for early-stage planning only, based on PPU single-chamber SBR datasheets. Kit selection, tank volumes and footprints must be confirmed by PPU against site-specific conditions and the discharge consent. ClearFox® is a registered brand of PPU Umwelttechnik GmbH.
