SBR Sizing Tool — multi-chamber

Size a standard ClearFox SBR from your design flow and organic load, with a choice of effluent class. Covers 4–5000 PE across three ranges. Sludge storage, buffer and reactor are supplied as separate compartments.

Each chamber's usable volume stays fixed. The compartments share one width and sit end-to-end; changing the water depth reshapes the footprint (shallower = longer, deeper = more compact). Water depth ≤ 4 m.

Tank dimensions

This drawing is an example only. The actual dimensions are fully flexible — any combination of length, width and depth can be used, provided each compartment reaches its required usable volume.

Design basis & notes
PE sizing — EU domestic norm per DWA-A 131 / DWA-A 222. PE from hydraulic load = Q ÷ 150 l/PE·d; PE from organic load = BOD ÷ 60 g/PE·d; the governing (larger) value drives selection. The smallest standard kit at or above the governing PE is chosen.
  • Compartments — 4–500 PE: primary (sludge storage + buffer) + SBR reactor. 500–5000 PE: separate sludge storage + buffer/screening shaft + reactor (built as two tanks). Compartments share one width and sit end-to-end; each length holds its usable volume at the water depth.
  • Effluent class — C = carbon removal; N = full nitrification; D = nitrification + denitrification. The N and D reactors are larger than C; the D reactor is the N reactor scaled up (≈ +33%).
  • Sludge storage (60–500 PE) — choose 3-month or 1-year primary storage; this sets the primary chamber volume.
  • Two reactors ≥ 1000 PE — at and above 1000 PE the biological reactor is built as two parallel tanks (the reactor is split lengthwise) run on alternating SBR cycles, so inflow is handled continuously. The reactor volume shown is the combined figure.
  • Usable volume & freeboard — volumes shown are usable (working) volumes; add ~300 mm freeboard above top water level for the overall tank height.
  • Footprints are planning estimates — standard kits are pre-engineered; confirm the final layout with PPU.

Indicative sizing for early-stage planning only, based on PPU standard SBR datasheets. Kit selection, tank volumes and footprints must be confirmed by PPU against site-specific conditions and the discharge consent. ClearFox® is a registered brand of PPU Umwelttechnik GmbH.
