How It Works

1. Filling and settling phase

The wastewater first flows into a prechamber. This prechamber is split into a sludge settlement tank and a buffer tank. Heavy solids and large particles settle to the bottom of the sludge tank. A baffle wall makes it impossible for these solids to enter the biological reactor. In the buffer tank, the incoming wastewater flow is equalised, to ensure peak flows do not effect the treatment process.

Filling and setteling phase

The flow of wastewater to the biological reactor is regulated by a butterfly valve. This is a floating valve, which restricts and controls the flow of sewage into the biological reactor. When the water level in the buffer tank rises from incoming wastewater, the valve also rises. This then allows wastewater to start flowing into the biological reactor. As the flow is restricted to a specific rate via the butterfly valve, there is a continuous and steady flow of wastewater into the biological reactor. This ensures stable and efficient biological treatment. This flow control mechanism is absent from many systems on the market.

Level sensor

From the buffer tank, the wastewater flows onto a mechanical tipper tray. This fills continuously with wastewater until it tilts due to the increasing weight on one side. Thus, it distributes wastewater equally over the perforated distribution tray. All parts of the flow control and distribution system are made of durable and corrosion-free HDPE. Via the perforated tray, the wastewater flows with even distribution into the biological reactor below. This guarantees stable operation without overloading, and ensures the effluent quality is consistent.

Wastewater on the wipp

The wastewater treatment takes place in the biological reactor. The reactor contains various materials on which the microorganisms in the wastewater grow. These microorganisms multiply and consume the pollutants in the wastewater without the need for any chemicals or additives. The biological reactor is designed so that the wastewater passes through the media layers slowly. This ensures complete cleaning of the wastewater takes place. The special media consists of resistant plastic fibers and a fixed bed material, both of which have an incredibly high surface area for bacteria to grow on. All materials are designed not only for the exceptional growth characteristics of microorganisms, but also for durability and reliable cleaning performance.

Wastewater going through the treatment material

The treated wastewater collects at the bottom of the domestic sewage treatment plant and exits there. Through aerobic sludge stabilization, the plant reduces no secondary sludge. This eliminates the need for regular pumping required by septic tanks or other conventional sewage treatment systems. The treated wastewater is suitable for irrigation, infiltration to ground or direct discharge into a watercourse. The ClearFox® Nature achieves a COD of 88 mg/l and a BOD5 of 16 mg/l. This has been certified by independent testing institutes. The ClearFox® Nature is certified to EN12566-3, and also has many regional approvals for other countries.

Treated wastewater going to outlet

Air is a critical component of aerobic wastewater treatment. The microorganisms need oxygen to degrade the contaminants and decompose the carbon. The ClearFox® Nature aerates using a natural ventilation process, with small air vents on the system. This chimney ventilation effect is responsible for ensuring that air circulation can take place. The special design of the ClearFox® Nature ensures there is no odour during this natural aeration process.

FAQs

1. What is the ClearFox® Nature system?

The ClearFox® Nature is a sustainable, non-electric sewage treatment system designed for individual houses and small communities of up to 50 people. It uses natural ventilation to power the treatment process, requiring no electricity, and operates without noise or odor.

The system utilizes natural ventilation through a vent stack to draw fresh air into the tank, supporting the biological treatment process without the need for electrical components.
  • No Electricity Required: Operates entirely without electrical power.
  • No Replacement Parts: Designed without components that require regular replacement.
  • Silent Operation: Functions without generating noise.
  • Odor-Free: Engineered to prevent unpleasant smells.
  • Certified Quality: Meets EN 12566-3 standards.

The treatment process involves two main stages:

Primary Treatment: Raw sewage enters the primary chamber, where solids settle at the bottom, and fats, oils, and grease float to the top, forming a scum layer.

Secondary Treatment: The partially treated wastewater flows into the reactor chamber, containing plastic media with a high surface area. Naturally occurring bacteria colonize this media, breaking down organic material and nutrients, resulting in high-quality effluent.

The system requires minimal maintenance due to its lack of mechanical or electrical components. Regular inspections and servicing are recommended to ensure optimal performance.

Yes, the ClearFox® Nature can be utilized to upgrade existing septic tanks, enhancing wastewater treatment efficiency without the need for electrical power.

Yes, the system is designed to handle fluctuations in occupancy, making it suitable for holiday homes or properties with intermittent use.

By operating without electricity and replacement parts, the ClearFox® Nature reduces energy consumption and waste, offering an eco-friendly wastewater treatment solution.
