PPU Umwelttechnik celebrated reopening

On 7 and 8 October 2021, PPU Umwelttechnik celebrated the reopening of its main production building. Since the company’s 10th anniversary was cancelled due to the pandemic, the company combined both celebrations with a big party and an open day. For this purpose, more than 80 national and international business partners visited the company based in Bayreuth.

The reopening was a big success

In his speech at the reopening of the main production building, Wolfgang Pöhnl, CEO of PPU Umwelttechnik, emphasised that companies today do not need a reason to celebrate. For far too long, people were not allowed to see each other and spend time together. But what was true in private also applied to business relationships: Exhibitions were cancelled, meetings shifted to video calls and even simple visits to companies were subject to strict regulations. This was gradually allowed again and thus reason enough for a celebration.

For this reason, the wastewater treatment company combined the belated 10th anniversary of the company with the reopening of the main production building in Bayreuth. On Thursday, 7 October 2021, around 80 business partners and partner companies from Germany and abroad visited the Carl-Kolb-Straße on the outskirts of Bayreuth. In the morning, visitors were treated to exhibitions of current projects, presentations by partner universities from Bayreuth, Hof and Erlangen, and an excursion to a project that had already been completed.

The technical presentations were particularly well received by the visitors. The Research and Development Department, headed by Sabine Düreth-Joneck, works closely with the various chairs. Together they are researching ever newer and more effective methods of wastewater treatment, such as nitrogen decomposition in the municipal sector, which becomes a challenge above all in the cold winter months. Another core area of research is different carrier materials for microorganisms that can purify wastewater. The most promising are wafer-thin threads in which the microorganisms are woven. When these contact with wastewater, they begin to break down the dissolved foreign substances. Professors and students from the universities presented their research results to date at the reopening and answered questions from visitors.

An open day followed the reopening

In recent months, the main production building of PPU Umwelttechnik has been in a constant state of flux. Numerous craftsmen went in and out of the company, built a second floor for new offices and expanded the production area. PPU thanked them for this on Friday, 8 October 2021 with an open day, to which all workers involved in the construction and neighbouring companies on the industrial estate were invited. The management also thought of all the employees who were working on their actual jobs in parallel to the construction work.

The festive reopening of the main production building was a complete success. On the one hand, the employees and guests were able to make numerous new contacts, and on the other hand, all those involved set up a modern and future-oriented workplace within a very short time.
