ISO certification at PPU Umwelttechnik GmbH – Focus on quality and the environment
Since its foundation, PPU Umwelttechnik GmbH has been developing innovative wastewater treatment plants that contribute to clean water worldwide. A particular focus is on the development and manufacture of containerized wastewater treatment plants for industrial, municipal and decentralized wastewater treatment.
With its successful certification according to ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management), the company reached an important milestone in 2025. This dual certification demonstrates PPU’s commitment to continuously improving its own processes, using resources efficiently and ensuring maximum transparency in quality and environmental management.
For customers, partners and employees, it is a visible sign of reliability, quality and sustainable action – values that shape PPUs corporate identity and strengthen confidence in its products and services.
Structured processes for maximum quality
‘ISO 9001 does not prescribe what a company must do, but ensures that it standardises, documents and makes its processes traceable,’ explains CEO Sebastian Papke. For PPU, this means that every step – from initial customer contact and quotation preparation to final acceptance of a container sewage treatment plant – follows a clearly defined and documented process.
This includes uniform templates for quotations and invoices, structured testing and documentation requirements (e.g. for leak tests on containers) and standardised procedures for assembly, commissioning and final acceptance. This approach ensures that customers worldwide can rely on the consistently high quality of ClearFox® systems – regardless of where they are used.
The introduction of this process structure not only strengthens product quality, but also internal cooperation. A routing card system serves as a central control instrument and accompanies each project step by step – from planning to completion. ‘While our processes have always been focused on quality, the structured process now allows us to delve even deeper into every detail and ensure that all steps mesh together optimally,’ emphasises Sebastian Papke.
Environmental awareness as a matter of course
As a company that develops and manufactures wastewater treatment plants, ISO 14001 certification was the next logical step. ‘We see ourselves as an environmental company – so it goes without saying that we also implement high environmental standards in our internal processes,’ explains CEO Sebastian Papke.
ISO 14001 supports PPU in using resources efficiently and establishing environmentally friendly processes throughout its operations.
For customers, this means that they are working with a partner who not only provides solutions for clean water but also handles environmental resources responsibly within its own organisation.
Added value for customers and partners
ISO certification creates trust – a decisive factor, especially in international projects. ‘In some countries, such as those in the Arab world, certification is even a prerequisite for participating in tenders,’ explains Papke.
Customers benefit above all from consistent quality and transparent documentation. Every system is manufactured, tested and delivered according to the same standards. If a customer needs a test report at a later date, for example, it is available at any time – without additional effort.
Trading partners also appreciate the reliability that ISO certification brings. They can be sure that production processes are reliable and traceable and that products comply with the agreed specifications.
Competitive advantage through certification
In the market for containerized wastewater treatment plants, PPU is one of the few medium-sized companies that is certified according to both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. ‘Many competitors are still in the process of introducing comparable management systems. Our dual certification enables us to reliably meet the requirements of large clients and continuously optimise our internal processes,’ explains CEO Sebastian Papke.
This consistent system orientation strengthens PPU’s position in international markets and builds trust among customers. They can rely on working with a partner who aligns its processes with recognised quality and environmental standards and has their effectiveness regularly checked externally.
Looking to the future
Certification is not a one-off achievement, but an ongoing process. Annual audits ensure that standards are not only maintained, but further developed. ‘Our goal is to continuously improve – whether in terms of optimising processes, digitalisation or expanding our environmental goals,’ says Papke.
With ISO certification, PPU Umwelttechnik GmbH is sending a strong signal for quality and environmental responsibility. It shows customers and partners worldwide that they can rely on reliable processes and sustainable solutions – while remaining true to its commitment to making clean water accessible through innovative technology.
